Officials Warn Texas Consumers of Moving Scams — Highlight Consumer Protection Law and Promote Moving Education
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), which licenses moving companies, and the Southwest Movers Association, Texas’ trade organization for licensed moving companies, sponsored the press conference at the TxDMV Regional Service Center to raise awareness about the prevalence of moving scams in the state and nation. More than 60 percent of the moving complaints received at the TxDMV deal with unlicensed movers. To operate legally, a moving company must display a valid TxDMV or United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) license number on the truck.

Former SMA Chairman Bob Adams

Bob Adams, a friend and long time SMA member as well as a wonderful ambassador for the Texas’ moving industry, lost his battle with cancer Monday, April 30.
Bob served as chairman of SMA as well as the SMA Foundation and was honored with the Heritage Award in 2005. Known for his humor, guidance and enthusiasm for life, Bob will be sorely missed. Please keep the Adams family in your prayers during this time.
Memorials in Bob Adams’ name may be made to the SMA Foundation.

Move For Hunger
Southwest Movers Association works in conjunction with Move For Hunger, a non-profit that partners with moving companies to pick up unwanted, unopened food during the moving process and deliver it to local food banks.

Move U Program
The Move-U Training Program is designed to enable moving company employees to solve real problems and demonstrate proper techniques needed to succeed in the industry.
The program includes comprehensive classroom training for movers, loaders, packers, drivers and supervisors through the use of videos, training manuals and hands-on instruction. The program will take place in a Simulated Move Environment where members will have hands-on instruction in a mock home setting. Upon successful completion, members will receive certification by Professional Mover Training and Development Inc.
