SMA Foundation 2009 Scholarship Application

Applications must be received by Tuesday, June 23, 2009.

Applicants must be high school seniors or college students. They
must be an employee or a dependent of someone employed by a company with membership in the Southwest Movers Association.

For scholarships to be awarded for the 2009-2010 Academic Year.

Move U Program

Introducing SMA's Newest Training Program

The Move-U Training Program is designed to enable moving company employees to solve real problems and demonstrate proper techniques needed to succeed in the industry.


The program includes comprehensive classroom training for movers, loaders, packers, drivers and supervisors through the use of videos, training manuals and hands-on instruction. The program will take place in a Simulated Move Environment where members will have hands-on instruction in a mock home setting. Upon successful completion, members will receive certification by Professional Mover Training and Development Inc.

 

 

SMA Foundation 2008 Scholarship Recipients

The SMA Foundation Trustees announced the following students as recipients of the 2008-2009 scholarship awards:
Jessica Boden daughter of Greg Boden, General Manager of Armstrong Moving and Storage in Lubbock, TX. Jessica will be attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock.
Heidi Nichole Cline, daughter of Linda Cline, Business Associate with Hart Moving & Storage in Lubbock. Heidi will be attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Jessica Ann Cooper, daughter of Jessie F. Cooper, Customer Service Manager, Armstrong Relocation in Dallas, TX. Jessica will be attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock.
Leticia Dominguez, is a receptionist for Berger Transfer and Storage, Dallas, TX. Leticia will be attending the University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, TX.

Kirby Kimber, daughter of Greg Kimber, owner of Kimber Relocation Services, Dallas, TX. Kirby will be attending Mills College in Oakland, CA.
Rubenangel Zamora, son of Ruben Zamora, employed by Del Rio Moving & Storage, Del Rio, TX. Rubenangel will be attending Southwest Texas Junior College in Del Rio, TX.


Foundation Chairman Bob Adams commented, “the applications received this year came from a very talented, deserving group of young people. They all deserve a scholarship; it was very difficult to narrow the selection down to just six.

We congratulate the students, their families, and thank the SMA members who encouraged and supported their employees to apply for the SMA Foundation scholarships.”

In 1988, SMA Vice Chairman Mike Craddock established a way to honor a member of the association who had made a significant contribution to the moving industry and to the association. The first presentation was called the “SWTA Outstanding Member” award and was given to O.D. “Shack” Shackelford of Arlington.
The selection of each Recipient is made by the SMA Heritage Committee with input from other members.
The Heritage Award recipient is announced at the SMA Annual Conference.
